A concept image from Project NEMO, an ongoing fiction project of mine.

Tetra Excursion Subs — The bright red hulls of Tetra tourist excursion submersibles are a common sight at major seaparks and “immersive” institutes the world over. Ranging in size from mammoth 80m models to svelte 10m types, these commercially mass-produced vessels opened the door to deep-water tourism, inspired by Jules Verne's Nautilus. Universally distinctive for their tall, blade-like profiles and large viewing salons, Tetras are built to accommodate both the technical requisites of a true sea-going submarine and the constraints of marina navigation.

********

Project NEMO was a prominent, self-contained oceanic institute-arcology on the small South Pacific island of San Galen, linked by bridge though the northeastern end of the Phillipe Atoll to the large islands of San Xavier. The facility was publicly known to house a dolphin research center, a unique complex of submerged “undersea observatories” within and beyond the reef at the edge of the costal drop-off, the base-of-operations for the revolutionary nuclear research submersible Aronnax, and a visitor center that hosted up to 500 guests for three-week-long “immersions” into undersea exploration. Unknown to the public (but the subject of speculation by the suspicious) Project NEMO also engaged in a number of secret experiments for unnamed agencies, including the “field testing” of an engineered transgenic humanoid type code-named AELIN, a small number of which having been transported to the NEMO research facilities in the spring prior to the incident.

On an early morning in June, 20xx, the entirety of San Galen and Project NEMO vanished, the bridge sliced cleanly at the edge a deep scar on the seabed outlining the island and its reefs. Occasional faint pings and garbled transmissions from Project NEMO's satellite network uplink and mainland terminal connections convinced the authorities that in some strange and unfathomable fashion, the facility remained intact and still occupied the same relative geographic position, but had likewise been displaced to another location or dimension by forces unknown...

That's a great little sub mate. Love the concept. Has an old school bi-plane feel to it.

It does resemble certain WWI biplanes in profile, now that you mention it — purely coincidental, I can assure you. ;)

Not bad for a design that appeared to me in a dream pretty much as shown. :3
